UN Standard FIBCs
01.UN Standard FIBCs
When exporting filled flexible container bags, you may be asked for flexible container bags conforming to UN standards. Flexible container bags conforming to the UN standard refers to a flexible container bags that meets the requirements stipulated in “the Regulations on the Transport and Storage of Dangerous Goods.” Of course, we can also produce custom-made flexible container bags that comply with UN standards. Please feel free to contact us.
02.Classification of flexible container bags compliant with UN Standards
- 13H1
Made of resin cloth without coating(※1) and without lining(※2).
- 13H2
Made of resin cloth with coating and without lining.
- 13H3
Made of resin cloth without coating and with lining.
- 13H4
Made of resin cloth with coating and with lining.
- ※1 Coating mainly refers to laminate in one-way flexible container bags.
- ※2 Lining mainly refers to the PE inner bag in one-way flexible container bags.
03.Container grades and test standards for flexible container bags conforming to UN standards
The following tests are performed on flexible container bags conforming to the UN standard according to the danger of the contents (=container grade).
Top lifting test
Contents of the test :
Lift up a flexible container bag until it separates from the floor, and hold it for 5 minutes at the maximum filling mass × 6 times the load.
Stack test
Contents of the test :
A flexible container bag is placed upright on a smooth and firm floor, and the stacking test load is applied, the bag is left for 24 hours. The test load to be stacked on the flexible container bag shall be a load equivalent to 1.8 times the maximum allowable total mass of the number corresponding to the number of stacks during transportation.
Drop test
Contents of the test :
Drop a flexible container bag from a prescribed height on a smooth, horizontal surface with no elasticity.
(Fall height by grade)
Container gradeⅠ:Drop height 1.8m
Container gradeⅡ:Drop height 1.2m
Container gradeⅢ:Drop height 0.8m
Tear propagation test
Contents of the test :
Place a flexible container bag on the floor and make a 10 laceration through the sides at an angle of 45° to the main axis of the flexible container bag, at an intermediate position between the bottom surface and the top of the contents. Keep this condition, and evenly apply a load equivalent to twice the maximum filling load to the flexible container bag, and hold the bag for 5 minutes. Then, with the load removed, lift the flexible container bag off the floor, and hold it for 5 minutes.
Pulling down test
Contents of the test :
Pull down a flexible container bag on a hard, non-elastic, smooth horizontal surface from a specified height.
(Fall height by grade)
Container gradeⅠ:Drop height 1.8m
Container gradeⅡ:Drop height 1.2m
Container gradeⅢ:Drop height 0.8m
Lifting test
Contents of the test :
Lift a flexible container bag which is placed horizontally using one hanging device (or two hanging devices if there are four hanging devices) at a speed of 0.1m/s or more until the flexible container bag is separated from the floor surface and becomes vertical.
- *Container gradeⅠ : High risk.
- *Container gradeⅡ : Medium-hazardous substances, explosives, substances that easily transmit disease (limited to medical waste of UN No.3291), self-reactive substances (limited to those with “-“in the column of the container grade of the first notification table), and organic peroxides (limited to those with “-“in the column of the container grade of the first notification table).
- *Container gradeⅢ : Low risk.
04.The sign of the flexible container bag conforming to the UN standard
UN-compliant flexible container bags need to be marked to indicate their danger according to their contents. We can also arrange the signs other than the examples below.
05.Dangerous goods containers (UN mark)
Basic part
01
UN number (IMDG CODE) and mark based on Recommendation on the Transport of Dangerous Goods. With the development of the chemical industry, the transport of dangerous goods is ever increasing, but it’s an essential theme to transport these dangerous goods safely. It’s also essential to test and certificate dangerous goods containers based on the unified standard and UN recommendations for safe transport of dangerous goods internationally (sea, air and land).
